A 19th century Italian plaster portrait bust of Girolamo Benivieni on a moulded plaster base (1430-1502) after Giovanni Bastianni (1830-1868). Circa 1863.

This 19th century plaster bust model was made in Florence as a forgery by Giovanni Bastanni. The bust in the style of the 15th century was the original model for the terracotta bust now in the Louvre representing the poet Girolamo Benivieni. It is possible that the sitter was a Guiseppe Buonaiuti, an operative in a tobacco factory who was chosen on account of his resemblance to an engraving of Benivieni in Allegrini.
