A rare early 18th century English cast iron fireback with the pattern maker’s monogram SHR along the bottom edge. The scene depicting a woman in a chariot with a feather headdress drawn by two armadillos is the personification of America taken from a set of playing cards, currently in the British Museum, entitled Jeu de la Geographie designed by Stafano della Bella for Louis XIV in 1644. Circa 1720.
